StoryCorps is the largest oral history project in U.S. history. Launched in 2004, this 10-year-long project collected more than 2,000 stories in its first year. During 2005, StoryCorps' two MobileBooths traveled to 23 cities in 16 states. In each state, people used the booths to record their stories. The 2006 tours begin on Dec. 1, 2005, in Gulfport, Miss., and Las Vegas, Nev. Because demand for time slots has frequently exceeded capacity, tour stays through 2006 have been extended from one week to two, three, and four weeks. The StoryCorps MobileBooths will travel to 12 cities in 2006. Visit the Web site for a schedule and for more information.

The Story Box Project was first developed by high school teacher and storyteller Kevin Cordi in 1995. Each year, Cordi sends a large decorated "Story Box" around the world. This "Story Box" travels from place to place, collecting stories at each destination, returning to Cordi 12 months later. Over the years the idea has caught on, with more and more schools and communities participating in places as far away as China and Poland. Visit the Web site to find out how to participate or how to start your own Story Box.
