REMEMBER to check out the READ/Writing Student Writing Showcase on May 9.

What a wonderful publishing year this has been! Now we bring you the April/May issue of Writing magazine. We end  a great year with our special issue devoted to winners of the Treasured Objects Contest.

We know you’ll enjoy reading through the poems and essays chosen by our honorary judge Naomi Shihab Nye. Inside, you'll also find:

  • "Once Upon a Time ... Happily Ever After: How Great Stories Begin and End," an article by Debbie Nevins

  • Steven Frank’s Power of the Pen column "The Best-Laid Plans"

  • Plus, you’ll find the usual departments designed to inspire and encourage student writers, including 1,000 Words and Write Stuff.

Please look for our new form in the fall. We will be published under the masthead of our sister publication READ. The new Writing section will contain many of the same features that will enhance READ's award-winning plays, short stories, book excerpts, and articles--including Lit Scene Investigation. We treasure our student writers and hope your classes join us for our "Great New Beginning."

Keep Writing,

The Editors
