Our White House Contest
Which president would you most like to meet and why?
Invite students to answer that question in 200–250 words. Send in responses, postmarked by Oct. 10, 2008, to: Our White House Contest, WR News, 1 Reader's Digest Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570-7000.
Five winners will each receive a copy of Our White House, autographed by Patricia MacLachlan, and a copy for their classroom or school library.

My Capital Contest
Students can write a Capital Challenge clue for their state capital. Entries should be 50 to 70 words and should mention at least one famous person, landmark, or historic event from the state's star city. Send entries, postmarked by Dec. 8, 2008, to My Capital Contest, WR News, 1 Reader's Digest Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570-7000.
The winning clue will run in WR News and its author will win $100.

Capital Challenge Map Contest
Have students label the capitals from the weekly Capital Challenge contest on a blank U.S. map. Students should label each capital and color in the state where it is located. After issue 25, send completed maps (with 21 capitals labeled) to Capital Challenge Map Contest, WR News, 1 Reader's Digest Road, Pleasantville, NY 10570-7000. Note: A blank map of the United States is on page 7 of the Teacher's Guide for issue 1.
Four students with correct entries will be chosen at random to receive $25 gift certificates to Amazon.com.

Read, Write, Win!
"Your favorite character has jumped out of a book to spend the day with you. What happens next?
