Welcome to READ's holiday issue, Miracles. This issue focuses on the magic and mystery of the holiday season.

Our Center Stage read aloud play is an adaptation of E.T.A Hoffman's  story, "The Nutcracker". "The Nutcracker" is one of  the most famous Christmas stories of all time, full of fantasy and wonder. Audra Pace's adaptation follows Hoffman's original version.

"The Burglar's Christmas", by Willa Cather, tells the miraculous story of a destitute man who finds his way home in an unlikely way on Christmas Eve.

"Oil and Water" looks at a different kind of miracle, the miracle of human kindness in Dani Shapiro's Hannukah story.

And let's not forget this issue's Lit Scene Investigation, which keeps us in the winter mood with Robert Frost's poem, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

We hope that you enjoy this special holiday issue. Bundle up, make some hot chocolate, and settle down with a copy of READ.

If you have any comments, questions, concerns, or if you just want to say hello, you can write to us at read@weeklyreader.com. And don't forget to check out our literary blog, WORD, at www.readandwriting.com

Happy Holidays,
The Editors at READ magazine
