Welcome to issue 2 of Know Your World Extra. This magazine is a high-interest magazine for students who read below level.

In this issue, we focus on a hot-button issue--dogfighting. With all the controversy surrounding Michael Vick, we thought it important to explore the dark world of dogfighting so that the students can become aware of it. Maybe if more people know about it, more people will become vocal about stopping this cruel "sport."

Another issue that seems to be everywhere these days is baggy pants. Some towns are fining people who have their underwear showing. Our debate asks students what they think.

Our Reader's Theater this issue is a retelling of The Adventure of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain.

What's So Funny
In issue 2, we showed you some winners of our What's So Funny page, which featured a toad wearing a crown. Here are more of our favorite entries:

  • "A few more years of being king until I croak!" Casey H., KS
  • "I'm hopping mad!" Wade F., Aurora, MO
  • "This is what happens when a girl kisses you." Tyler D., Aurora, MO
  • "As king, I would like to be lord of the flies." Anthony K., Sulphur Springs, TX
  • "I'm the king of hip hop." Samantha M., Little Chute, WI

Check back next month for new What's So Funny entries!
