WELCOME! to Current Health 2's Web extension for March 2009.

Huddled in our offices, it's easy for those of us who produce Current Health to lose touch with what teachers and students think. So we try to get out a few times a year for classroom visits and see how the magazine is used in real life. In our most recent foray, we observed a health teacher launching a unit on environmental health and asking the class to produce brochures about related issues. She defined environmental health broadly, and had years' worth of Current Health available for use as a resource. It was interesting—and gratifying—to notice how many students reached for our March 2009 issue, attracted to the cover story on gangs. Violence is all too often a fact of life in many communities, and we hope this article—and the searing image of Eddie Flores, a young person paralyzed due to gang violence—prompts some frank discussions in your classroom.

We'd love to get your feedback on what worked in this issue, and what you'd like to see more of. Send your comments to CurrentHealth@weeklyreader.com. Thank you! Your ideas help make the magazine better for all of our subscribers and readers.

Cordially,

Meredith Matthews
