WELCOME! to Current Health 2's Web extension for November 2008.
Let the feasts begin! From Diwali and Halloween through Eid and Thanksgiving all the way through to Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, the last few months of the year are all about celebrating the important days of various cultures. Each of those holidays claims a specific food as its signature dish (in the case of Halloween, just candy in general!). But for all of those differences, many cultures share similarities, too. That's what we learned from assembling an article on food guides around the globe. They may feature unique shapes and food selections, but overall the food guides of various countries generally agree on which food groups people should eat from—and how much.
Continuining with the food theme, the November issue also includes an article on cooking and eating as a family. Of course, your students don't have to wait for the holidays to get started in the kitchen—it's never too late, or too early, to adopt this healthy habit which promotes many other good behaviors. We hope you and your class enjoy testing out these ideas—teens seldom pass up the chance to enjoy tasty food!
Cordially,
Meredith Matthews
