Russian President Vladimir Putin recently compared the U.S. missile defense shield to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, which was a military confrontation between the United States, Cuba, and Soviet Union brought the world the closest its ever come to nuclear war. Putin has been critical of the shield, which he considers a threat to his country. The U.S. has said that they want the shield in place to protect the United States from the threat of long-range ballistic missiles from Iran. Read more here.
Presidential hopeful Barack Obama said in recently in a campaign stop that there is a key role in his administration for Al Gore, if he’s interested. Gore, who has denied any suggestions of his entering the presidential race, recently won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work educating the public about climate change.
