Welcome to Career World's
April/May 2007
Web extension!

As an educator, you are accustomed to getting up early and working throughout the daylight hours. But of course, a whole world of work is busily going on overnight while many of us are sleeping. People and goods are moving from place to place; law and order are more than an overnight rerun on cable; information is being gathered and dispersed; products are being created; and maintenance is taking place on the infrastructure that keeps us going during the day.

Career World’s cover story for April/May clocks in for the night shift. Of course, we can’t cover every night shift job, but students will learn that the opportunities are vast for those who don’t mind adjusting their internal clocks to work during the wee hours of the night.

Two articles, “How’d You Get That Job?” and “A Major Decision,” advise students on two topics of perennial interest to many teens: specific strategies for landing a great job and choosing a college major.

Please be sure to fill out our end-of-year educator survey, included in your educator’s guide. The survey is postage-paid; just fill it out and drop it in a mailbox. Also, keep checking this space for the winners of the “What’s Your Career Story?” contest. Those will be posted here in mid-April.

We'd love to know what you think of this issue and what you'd like to see in Career World in 2007-2008. Thank you for joining us this year as we explored the diverse, exciting working world. Please e-mail us anytime with your comments and questions: careerworld@weeklyreader.com.
