Welcome Career World's
October 2006 Web extension!

Nurses, firefighters, addiction counselors … these careers and many more fall into the category of “lifesaver.” In this issue, we explore these careers and others. We invite students to think about the many ways professional people can have a positive impact on other people’s lives — including in life-or-death scenarios.

This issue also focuses on self-confidence and its role in both getting a job and succeeding in one’s career. Students can take a quiz on page 22 to test their own confidence levels.

Some students go through high school without meeting with their guidance counselor at all until it comes time to complete college applications. But they may be missing out. “School Counselor 101” on page 23 gives students all the information they need to make the most out of their relationship with their counselor.

Please let us know what you think of this issue and what you'd like to see in future issues by e-mailing us at careerworld@weeklyreader.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
