ootball superstars Peyton and Eli Manning are Super Bowl MVPs, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have time to play catch with their dad. Peyton, Eli, and Archie Manning recently threw around Nerf footballs with hundreds of kids and dads at Chelsea Piers in New York City.

The Manning family even participated in a giant father–child game of catch. Archie, a former quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, took turns throwing to Peyton and Eli. Peyton is quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. Eli is quarterback for the New York Giants.

“Throwing the football is something we used to do a lot growing up as kids and it’s been a fun day today being with all of these kids and their parents on behalf of Nerf,” Peyton Manning told the crowd. “We’re proud to be here.”

The Mannings watched as kids and dads competed to see who could throw and catch from the farthest distance. Jake, 7, and his dad, Gary, of Bayside, N.Y., won the contest for children age 8 and younger. Jake told Weekly Reader that his favorite part of the day was playing catch. He also loved meeting the Mannings—especially Eli, his favorite.

Stefanos, 12, of New York City, and his guardian, Robert, beat out tough competition to win the age 8–14 category. Before Stefanos made his winning throw, Eli Manning offered the competitors a few tips. “You’ve got to get a lot of air, a lot of height. You’ve got to keep your feet inbounds obviously,” Eli advised.

The winners received Nerf footballs autographed by the Mannings. They also got to play a private game of catch with the Manning family. “The best part was getting to shake hands with Eli, Archie, and Peyton,” Stefanos told Weekly Reader.
